Flora,

The nearest greyhound station is in Mount Vernon. It is about 13 miles from Anacortes. From there it is possible to get the SCAT public bus to Anacortes, but you need a ticket before you get on the bus. also is does not run at night. so it is kind of difficult to arrange. Maybe if you are arriving during the day I can come pick you up..it might be the easiest solution. Glad you like our little place...hopefully you can come visit.

There is no public transportation service provided within Yellowstone National Park.

Xanterra Parks & Resorts provides bus tours within the park during the summer season. The Lower Loop Tour departs from locations in the southern part of the Park only. The Upper Loop Tour departs from Lake Hotel, Fishing Bridge RV Park, and Canyon Lodge to tour the northern section of the park only. The Grand Loop Tour departs from Gardiner, MT and Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel to tour the entire park in one day. During the winter season, they provide several snowcoach tours from various locations. During the summer season, commercial businesses offer tours originating from many area towns and cities. During the winter season, some businesses provide snowcoach tours for most park roads or bus transportation on the Mammoth Hot Springs to Cooke City road.

West Yellowstone hostel is a cute, log hotel with hostel rooms for singles or doubles. There are public restrooms and shower facilities and cable television in the lobby. Private rooms have private restrooms and public showers. We are a no smoking hostel and there are no kitchen facilities. However, there is a microwave and hot water available. 

The hostel is located 2 blocks from the west entrance to Yellowstone Park. We are close the shuttle stop for the airport. 

Yellowstone Park tours are available in town. As well as this there is a restaurant next door and we also have a large gift shop on the premises. Internet access is available in the lobby.

We are open from the end of May to October 10. 

In 1910, Roxy and Dolly Bartlett found their way to West Yellowstone to look for work. Roxy found a job driving stage coach from Monida to West Yellowstone, and Dolly found work at a cafe located on the property where their hotel now rests. After working for two years and saving, they decided to build a hunting lodge on the corner next to the cafe, where previously there was only a tent hotel.

This little lodge, named for the Madison River, had six rooms upstairs, with a fireplace to keep it warm, and pitchers and bowls for the water, which was hand carried from the well across the street at the Union Pacific Railroad depot. Dolly didn't put water in the hotel until well into the 30's because she felt that it would make people lazy. Downstairs was the lobby, and a small area to write letters, play cards, and work on hand projects such as wood carving, etc. Many people paid for their rooms with an exchange of animal skins and heads or their finished hand crafts. The rooms were small, and there were no bathrooms inside, only chamber pots.

Most tourists at that time traveled by stagecoach, or by train connections in Utah. They would rent a conveyance, usually open aired, and pulled by horses. Buckboards were common, and they rented dusters to cover their clothes.

In 1921, plans were made to expand the hotel with about 14 more rooms, and a card room. During the expansion, Roxy was hurt by a falling log, and he died within two years. Dolly finished the project, and later married the cigar salesman, George Pickup. They kept the hotel up and it was a favorite place for people to meet for a long awaited get together during the cold winter months. Year round residents of the Park would trek by snowshoe to attend dances and parties that might last a week.

In 1929, President Harding stayed in the hotel during his visit to Yellowstone, and many Hollywood figures of the time also stayed in this favorite hotel, including Wallace Beary and Gloria Swanson. These old registers are still at the hotel.

In 1959, Lon and Grace Hadley bought the hotel, as George had died, and Dolly was quite old. They soon took out most of the ground floor to make a large gift shop, except for the lobby and first six rooms, and the whole upstairs remains the same as they were. Free tours are available, but the hotel is still in use every day. Inquire at the hotel desk or in the gift shop.

芝加哥是當代冷硬派(所謂冷硬hard-boiled...意思就是不像瓊瑤的那麼好讀,有看不懂或看完會頭痛的風險:大概可以翻成腦汁沸騰吧,此外,書中的硬漢和海明威小說裡的硬漢本質都很像)推理小說大師雷蒙錢德勒Raymond Chandler的出生地,錢德勒在1888年7月23日出生於芝加哥,1895年父母離婚,所以他的六歲之後的童年跟母親Florence Chandler 在倫敦渡過,1905年他大學畢業到巴黎學法文,也到德國去學過德文,1912年回國在加州洛杉磯定居, 1916年住在311 Loma Drive, downtown Los Angeles,他的前半生都在做bookkeeping(會計),45歲才成為職業作家(這種叫做"開筆甚晚也"),1924年1月母親去世(母親一直跟他住),1924年2月就跟情人Cissy Pascal互結連理(女方大他18歲,是LA名人之妻,已離婚,與錢德勒婚後一年,就把他甩了,真是不幸啊!),1928年搬到1024 South Highland Avenue,(後來又陸續搬家搬到South Higland Avenue ,還有4616 Greenwood Place...等等他很愛搬家...)1939年他以A big sleep(電影版翻成"夜長夢多",不過書卻翻成"大眠")出道,透過鐵漢偵探馬羅先生震驚了文壇,不過他後來的成名作應該是A long goodbye"漫長的告別",這部長篇小說獲得了1955年的愛倫坡獎,1959年錢德勒因肺炎併發逝世在加州南方的La Jolla拉荷亞灣裡的Scripps Clinic,(La Jolla離聖地牙哥很近),享年69歲,留下七本長篇小說(本本暢銷),及20多部精彩的短篇小說

A big sleep電影1956年由亨佛萊鮑嘉Humphrey Bogart(就是北非諜影裡面的男主角啦!)與瓊白考兒Lauren Bacall主演

錢德勒是偵探小說派中,都市豪俠的創造者,而且鍾意愛開玩笑的都市豪俠形象,錢德勒的小說中都是由偵探為第一人稱,由他創造出來的洛杉磯都市豪俠Philip Marlowe菲力浦馬羅,幾乎就是推理界的布萊德彼特,
