我之前在mfa網站上留言給妳過,雖然已經隔一段時間了,但是我仍然在苦惱當中.
我不是本科系的學生,去年剛畢業.在考慮要去scad的ma graphic design,還是nyu的ma studio art. 思索了很長一段時間,也問過很多人的意見.我知道scad的課程比較適合我,也是我喜歡的,但是關於nyu和紐約的夢想,放棄了一直覺得心裡有個遺憾,之前還只要一想到要放棄nyu了,就會開始哭,畢竟是付出了很多努力才申請到的.
礙於經濟上的考量,也擔心nyu偏純藝術的課程不適合我,理智上我可能還是會選擇scad.昨天寫信給莫方,他叫我不要放棄nyu,說沒去紐約念是他的遺憾,希望不會是我的遺憾,也提到地域關係的重要,和學校名氣對於就業的影響.而我的確是想在美國工作幾年,多累積經驗之後再回台灣.
我看妳寫在紐約的日子,都會看得好投入,不知道為什麼,就是想去nyu.阿福妳是到了紐約的人,可以提供我一些想法嗎?主觀的或客觀的都好,還有,studio art對於將來工作是否真的幫助不大呢? 謝謝妳聽我說了這麼多,也謝謝你的幫忙.

In new york city, most of days are quite flexible. It means you face the challenge and you Do Challenge the day. I also suggest you go to new york city. Don’t worry about the program fits you or not. There are other Art programs in NYU. I suggest you can take some courses of Art Students League of New York.
I don’t know your background. If you are often and easily negative and depressed, don’t go to NYU. NEW YORK CITY IS NOT A ‘SUNSHINE’ CITY. The random challenges from life and school may kill your all positive attitudes if you are not used to be active to produce it every second! Compare with that, SCAD is a quite soft learning area. (with more sunshine….) If you need relaxing to create the art works. It is nice. However, hard to find challenge.
The last thing is Money issue. Prepare enough money before you go NYU. Therefore your life won’t be too tough. If the money isn’t there yet, stay in Taiwan and save enough money is my suggestion. Why I say this is because, in Taiwan, money is easy to save, in NYU, it is not. Tuition first bite everything. In my experience, money issue is often related with family issue. So maybe you can start to have a family money-backup solution.

這陣子問了很多人,真的很感謝大家給我的意見,(阿福網站上的人被我問過不少了,呵呵).我很願意妳替我把問題放在網站上,期待大家給我更多想法.
